When a home builder or developer decides to bring in Haven Design Works to help design and merchandise his or her latest model home, Haven Design Works becomes part of that company’s team to create the right home for the right buyer.
As Donna Mathis, president of Haven Design Works, explains: “Early on, we meet with the builder. That’s when we learn what the target profile of the buyer is based on demographics and market projections. Based on this detailed profile, we select the appropriate design style and colors, create the design and present our recommendations to the home builder.
“Once the builder has approved this design and we have signed the contract, our company starts ordering the furniture, art, lamps and accessories. At the same time, we send the builder detailed specifications and join him on-site for the ‘framing walk.’
Within 8 to 10 weeks after signing the contract, Haven Design aims to install the model, a process that then takes three to four days. Upon completion of the installation, a final walk-through with the builder will take place, at which time any final adjustments to the design may be made. “We always plan to have the model ready for showing by the weekend,” says Donna. “That continues to be the most popular time for buyers to visit model homes in new communities.”
